EAGLES HAVE 2 TDs NULLIFIED IN 7-0 LOSS TO VARELA

Visiting Southwest had two touchdowns nullified in a 7-0 loss at Varela Friday afternoon. The Eagles (2-6) moved 64 yards on their opening drive appearing to score on a run from three yards out. The line judge gave the touchdown signal, indicating he saw the ball break the plane of the goal line, but he was overruled by another official who said Southwest fumbled before reaching the goal line and the ball was awarded to Varela at its own one. The Vipers (5-3) advanced only 13 yards before punting the ball back to the Eagles. On the first play of the second quarter, quarterback Livan Morales connected with Andis Jackson for a 32-yard touchdown pass, only to see it called back by a holding penalty. The Eagles turned the ball over seven plays later and Varela responded with a 75-yard scoring pass with 4:38 remaining before halftime. Despite a strong defensive effort, turnovers hampered Southwest.
